1. Wind-Whipper – The Crowd-Control Specialist

The Wind-Whipper is one of those weapons I would happily recommend to players who are still getting comfortable with Onimusha’s combat. Its biggest strength isn’t necessarily single-target damage. Instead, it gives Musashi excellent control over groups of enemies.

How to Unlock Wind-Whipper

Progress through the early sections until the Kyoto Suburbs and surrounding temple areas become accessible. During the objective involving the statues needed to open the large temple gate, head toward the eastern edge of the area.

Look for an old merchant cart surrounded by destructible bamboo. Cutting through the bamboo reveals a hidden cavern. Inside, you’ll have to deal with two aggressive dual-wielding Genma elites. Defeat both enemies and the sealed Oni Chest containing the Wind-Whipper will become available.

Here’s the important part: don’t immediately close the primary narrative Rift. First, find and purify all three optional minor Rifts in the Southern Ward. After the third one has been cleared, the Subterranean Monk appears near the central shrine.

Speak with him after completing the optional Rift objectives and he’ll reward Musashi with the Firebird Flute.

Combat Tips

The Firebird Flute works particularly well against tougher individual enemies and small groups. Its magical attack can hit up to three nearby targets, staggering them and creating opportunities for heavier attacks.

I wouldn’t waste it on every random Genma you encounter, though. Save its strongest effects for enemies that actually take time to bring down.

The Flashing Void is probably my favorite weapon conceptually. It rewards players who have learned to stop blocking everything and instead rely on precise movement and perfect dodges.

You’ll need to reach the mountain paths leading toward Mount Oe and locate the hidden route into the Oni Refuge. Near the waterfall checkpoint, activate Oni Vision to reveal a shimmering path that isn’t immediately obvious.

Follow it into the hidden cavern and you’ll find an Onimusha-style puzzle box. The correct elemental symbol sequence is:

Left → Right → Center → Left

Solve the puzzle and the chest will open, revealing the Flashing Void.

What Makes It Special?

Every successful perfect dodge charges the weapon with lightning. Your next physical attack can then release that stored energy into the target, with part of the damage jumping to nearby Genma.

This makes the weapon particularly satisfying when you’re fighting several enemies at once. Dodge, reposition, strike, and watch the lightning spread. It feels exactly like the kind of weapon that rewards mastery instead of button mashing.

4. Oni Muso – The Ultimate All-Rounder

The Oni Muso is the weapon I would point toward players who want one secret weapon that can handle almost everything. It has the appearance and presence of a classic ultimate Onimusha weapon, with a dark blade surrounded by a distinctive purple aura.

How to Unlock Oni Muso

This one is tied to the Dark Realm. After completing the “What Lurks in the Shadows” questline connected to Lady Murasaki, look for the mysterious floating spirit hook near her safehouse.

That leads you into the Dark Realm challenge arena. You need to clear the first ten tiers to unlock Oni Muso.

The challenge isn’t just about killing enemies quickly. Healing resources are limited, and the waves become increasingly aggressive, so knowing when to attack and when to play defensively matters enormously.

Combat Advantage

Oni Muso comes with a passive stance-breaking multiplier that makes heavy attacks particularly effective against guarded opponents. Against elites and bosses, that can create opportunities for a Break Issen followed by a devastating finisher.

5. Dragon’s Breath Odachi – Slow, Heavy, Brutal

Sometimes subtle swordplay is overrated. The Dragon’s Breath Odachi is for those moments when you would rather solve a problem with an enormous blade.

How to Unlock Dragon’s Breath

Travel through the Mount Oe stage until you’re approaching the encounter with Shuten Doji. After the burning village section, you’ll reach a damaged bridge spanning a ravine.

Don’t cross it.

Instead, drop into the dry riverbed and follow the ravine north. You’ll eventually encounter an optional mini-boss called the Malice Goliath.

There is one important restriction: defeat the Goliath without using the ranged Oni Bow. Once the monster falls, the barrier surrounding a nearby stone altar disappears and the Dragon’s Breath Odachi becomes yours.

How to Use It

This is not a weapon for frantic button pressing. Its swings are slower, so timing is everything. I recommend using it immediately after a successful parry or deflection, where its powerful counterattack can deliver enormous damage.

Against armored Genma, the difference is particularly noticeable.

6. Shadow-Weaver Twin Blades – The Aggressive Choice

The Shadow-Weaver Twin Blades completely change Musashi’s rhythm. Instead of relying on heavier attacks, they encourage constant pressure, rapid strikes, and aggressive movement.

How to Unlock Shadow-Weaver

This weapon is connected to the Lion Dog collection. After meeting Lady Murasaki, thoroughly explore Eastern Kyoto and begin searching for the hidden Lion Dog statues.

There are 15 statues in the region, hidden in places such as rooftops, alcoves, and areas blocked by destructible objects. You don’t need all 15, however. Finding and interacting with 10 Lion Dogs is enough.

Once you’ve reached that threshold, return to the Spirit Mirror outside the central estate. The Shadow-Weaver should then unlock in your appearance and armament inventory.

Why Use It?

The weapon builds a shadow meter as you attack. Once charged, it creates a phantom clone that copies Musashi’s attacks.

For players who love staying on the offensive, this is an absolute blast. The clone also helps increase your soul collection, making the weapon useful not just for combat but for farming Red, Blue, and Yellow Souls.

7. Bishamon’s Legacy – The Endgame Monster

And then there’s Bishamon’s Legacy, the weapon that feels like Capcom’s way of asking whether you’ve completely lost your patience and decided to conquer every piece of optional content in the game.

This is the ultimate endgame reward. It has extremely high base damage and, more importantly, its unique magical attack can be used without the usual concern about exhausting your magic meter.

How to Unlock Bishamon’s Legacy

Getting it requires a long checklist rather than one simple side quest. First, you need to collect the secret Oni Stones required to fully maximize your Oni Gauntlet’s processing level.

Then, during the final act, before entering the domain of the final boss Sasaki Ganryu, search for the hidden Man in White NPC.

He will only provide the Bishamon Ocarina if you’ve:

• Closed every Rift in Kyoto.
• Reached Dark Realm Tier 20.
• Completed the required Oni Stone progression.

Once you receive the Ocarina, return all the way to the first temple area at Kiyomizu-dera. Play it near the sacred inner sanctum to reveal the hidden vault containing Bishamon’s Legacy.

Is Bishamon’s Legacy Worth the Effort?

For normal progression, probably not. For completionists and players tackling the hardest difficulty, absolutely.

The unlimited-use magical attack is the real prize. It allows you to throw out powerful elemental waves repeatedly, making groups of enemies dramatically easier to control.
