Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Tier List: Best Roster Characters Ranked (2026)
When Arc System Works announced they were teaming up with PlayStation Studios to create a brand-new Marvel fighter, I expected flashy visuals and insane combo videos. What I didn’t expect was a tag fighter that feels this deep after only a few beta sessions.
After spending dozens of hours in the closed tests, grinding the July Open Beta, watching high-level matches, and comparing notes with players across Discord communities and competitive forums, one thing became obvious: Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls rewards smart team construction just as much as mechanical skill.
This isn’t a game where you simply lock in your favorite superhero and hope for the best. Every assist, every tag extension, and every team order matters.
Below is my updated launch meta ranking for every base roster character heading into the official August 2026 release.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Tier List
| Tier | Characters |
|---|---|
| S Tier | Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Wolverine |
| A Tier | Iron Man, Doctor Doom, Captain America, Magneto, Deadpool, Blade |
| B Tier | Storm, Black Panther, Hulk, Green Goblin, Magik, Loki |
| C Tier | Ms. Marvel, Peni Parker, Danger, Carnage |
This ranking reflects overall tournament viability, solo strength, assist quality, combo flexibility, neutral control, pressure, comeback potential, and overall synergy inside the 4v4 tag system.
S Tier — The Characters Everyone Has to Respect
These fighters currently define the competitive landscape. They’re flexible enough to fit almost every team while offering incredible damage, oppressive pressure, or unmatched utility.
Star-Lord
If somebody asked me which character feels the strongest during neutral, my answer wouldn’t even take a second.
Star-Lord dominates space.
His elemental blasters constantly force opponents to guess whether to jump, block, or attempt risky movement. Once he starts controlling fullscreen, approaching him becomes a genuine headache.
His assists are arguably even better.
Instead of simply covering an entry, they continuously pressure opponents while teammates safely begin offense.
Strengths
- Incredible zoning
- Excellent assists
- Strong mix-up game
- Safe projectile pressure
Simply put, Star-Lord controls the pace of matches better than anyone else.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man is absolute chaos.
Watching an experienced player pilot Peter Parker almost looks unfair. Air dashes, web swings, instant cross-ups, fake approaches, overhead conversions—he never stops moving.
He also builds meter ridiculously fast, meaning your team gains access to devastating supers much earlier than expected.
If aggressive rushdown is your preferred style, Spider-Man remains one of the easiest S-Tier recommendations.
Ghost Rider
Robbie Reyes surprised me more than anyone else.
Most players expected a slow powerhouse.
Instead, he became one of the best mid-range specialists in the roster.
His chains control enormous portions of the screen, anti-air options are extremely reliable, command grabs hit like trucks, and nearly every combo ends with excellent corner positioning.
His Ultimate also scales incredibly well after long tag extensions.
Wolverine
Every Arc System Works game usually includes one relentless pressure monster.
This time it’s Wolverine.
His offensive momentum feels endless.
Frame traps are terrifying, air movement is excellent, and once Logan gets close, escaping often requires spending defensive resources immediately.
His passive regeneration isn’t game-breaking, but it absolutely rewards consistent pressure over long rounds.
He’s also one of the easiest characters for beginners to understand without sacrificing tournament potential.
A Tier — Tournament-Level Powerhouses
These characters are fully capable of winning majors.
They simply require slightly better team support or more execution compared to S Tier.
Iron Man
Tony Stark feels like the definition of versatility.
Need zoning?
He has it.
Need rushdown?
He has that too.
His flight cancels open creative combo routes, while Unibeam remains one of the strongest assists available.
Iron Man comfortably fits nearly every possible team composition.
Doctor Doom
Veterans of older Marvel fighting games immediately feel at home.
Doctor Doom brings back everything players love:
- Missile pressure
- Plasma control
- Brutal corner carry
- Devastating combo loops
His slower mobility prevents him from reaching S Tier, but once Doom establishes momentum, escaping becomes incredibly difficult.
Captain America
Cap isn’t flashy.
He doesn’t need to be.
His toolkit is built around consistency.
The shield controls neutral exceptionally well, defensive options are reliable, and his anti-air punishes reckless jump-ins every single time.
Players who enjoy fundamentals over flashy execution will absolutely love him.
Magneto
Magneto has one of the highest execution ceilings in the game.
Eight-direction air dashes create terrifying mix-ups that constantly force incorrect blocking decisions.
At beginner level he feels merely good.
At expert level he starts looking borderline broken.
Deadpool
Predicting Deadpool players is almost impossible.
Teleport cancels, sword strings, gun pressure, fake pressure, and random movement constantly keep opponents guessing.
That unpredictability alone wins games.
Blade
Blade offers one of the most underrated assist packages in the roster.
His sword pressure creates huge amounts of block stun, allowing teammates to safely continue offense while simultaneously restoring portions of recoverable health through certain attacks.
He’s one of the safest investments for balanced team compositions.
B Tier — Strong Picks With Specific Weaknesses
Calling these characters “average” would actually be unfair.
Most of them become excellent with proper teammates.
Storm
Storm dominates the skies.
Lightning attacks, floating movement, and outstanding aerial control make her frustrating to chase.
Unfortunately, her lower durability means mistakes are punished much harder than other top characters.
Black Panther
Speed defines everything.
Wall jumps, fast overheads, aggressive mobility, and explosive offense allow Black Panther to overwhelm opponents once momentum starts rolling.
Lose neutral against heavy zoning, however, and the matchup quickly becomes difficult.
Hulk
Nobody survives longer than Hulk.
His health pool is enormous.
Hyper armor allows him to ignore many attacks while retaliating with devastating command grabs.
Sadly, his huge hurtbox makes extended combos against him almost effortless.
Green Goblin
The Goblin Glider creates unique aerial movement unlike anyone else.
Pumpkin bombs constantly interrupt approaches while razor attacks limit mobility options.
Corner pressure against him, however, exposes his biggest weakness.
Escaping isn’t easy once opponents close the distance.
Magik
Portal mechanics instantly make Magik fun.
Teleporting around the battlefield while extending Soulsword combos looks incredible.
Her overall damage output simply falls behind stronger sword characters like Blade.
She’s still perfectly viable for creative players.
Loki
Loki rewards patience.
Clone traps, counter mechanics, and constant mind games make him a nightmare for impatient opponents.
Rushdown specialists, however, can overwhelm him before his setup begins.
C Tier — Specialists That Need Serious Team Support
These fighters aren’t unplayable.
They’re simply working much harder for similar results.
Ms. Marvel
Kamala Khan has fantastic reach thanks to her stretching attacks.
She’s beginner-friendly and easy to understand.
Unfortunately, experienced players punish her lengthy recovery animations far too consistently.
Peni Parker
Trap enthusiasts will enjoy Peni.
Her mechanical mines and web setups can completely lock down sections of the stage.
The problem is time.
Against hyper-aggressive teams, she rarely gets enough breathing room to establish her game plan.
Danger
Danger brings interesting adaptive mechanics and laser control.
Unfortunately, movement feels noticeably slower compared to most of the roster.
That weakness becomes painfully obvious against elite rushdown characters.
Carnage
Carnage probably owns the highest risk-reward ratio in the game.
His offense explodes once it connects.
Actually getting that first clean hit is another story.
Without defensive armor or consistently safe approaches, experienced opponents punish his commitment extremely hard.
Why Team Composition Matters More Than Individual Rankings
Unlike traditional 2v2 or 3v3 fighters, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls revolves around managing a complete four-character lineup.
I’ve seen plenty of players obsess over S-Tier picks while completely ignoring synergy.
That’s a mistake.
A balanced squad often outperforms four individually powerful characters thrown together.
| Team Role | Best Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Point | Spider-Man, Wolverine | Build early momentum |
| Support | Iron Man, Captain America | Control space and generate resources |
| Secondary Damage | Blade, Magneto | Extend combos and maintain pressure |
| Anchor | Ghost Rider, Doctor Doom, Hulk | Solo comeback potential |
The smartest teams mix mobility, zoning, assists, and survivability instead of stacking four rushdown characters.

The Meta Will Change Faster Than Most Players Expect
Launch tier lists rarely survive untouched.
Arc System Works has a long history of balance updates, system tweaks, and surprisingly strong DLC characters.
The first major addition already has competitive players paying attention.
Phoenix Cyclops, inspired by the legendary Phoenix Five storyline, is scheduled to arrive during the first year of post-launch support.
Considering how explosive his fire-based mechanics already look, I wouldn’t be shocked if he immediately challenges the current S Tier once players unlock his full potential.
History has shown that Arc System Works isn’t afraid to shake up established metas.

Final Thoughts
One thing became crystal clear after the beta weekends.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls isn’t won by execution alone.
The streamlined Quick Skill system lowers the entry barrier, but intelligent assist usage, smart positioning, and carefully planned team order separate good players from great ones.
Sure, the current rankings suggest picking Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, or Wolverine if you want the strongest launch options.
But don’t let the letters beside a character’s name completely dictate your decision.
I’ve already watched skilled Magneto, Blade, and even Hulk players dismantle supposedly “better” teams simply because they understood spacing, timing, and assists on a deeper level.
That’s exactly why this roster feels exciting.
Every character has a purpose.
Every team tells a different story.
And if Arc System Works keeps supporting the game with meaningful balance patches, today’s tier list could look completely different only a few months after release.
