If there is one thing that can ruin a good evening in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, it is not getting spotted by an entire Unidad patrol. It is getting hit with a Ribera error just when your friends are ready to start a mission.

I have always liked Wildlands for its co-op. The game feels completely different when four players coordinate a convoy ambush, split up to attack an enemy base, or quietly clear an entire outpost without triggering an alarm. Fix #2: Enter Single Player Before Starting Co-Op

If the main menu trick does nothing, try approaching the problem from the opposite direction.

Start Wildlands and enter Single Player normally. Wait until your character has fully loaded into the open world.

Once you’re actually in Bolivia:

1. Open the pause menu.
2. Go to the squad or lobby settings.
3. Check your privacy configuration.
4. Change the lobby from Private to Friends Only or Public.
5. Try inviting another player.
6. Alternatively, accept an invitation while already inside the world.

This can work because you’re forcing Wildlands to refresh its online state after the game has already completed its initial loading process.

It sounds like a strange workaround, but older multiplayer games often behave differently depending on when the network request happens.

Fix #3: Open the In-Game Store

This is another workaround that I would absolutely try before getting technical.

From the main menu, open the in-game Store and wait for its content to load.

If the store successfully displays images and items, the game is communicating with Ubisoft’s services. Exit the store and check your network status again.

The reason this can help is simple: the store needs an active connection to retrieve its online content. Returning to the main menu can therefore force another network status check.

It is not a guaranteed fix, but considering that it takes less than a minute, I think it is worth trying.

PC Fixes for Ribera Errors

PC players have a few additional things to check because Windows introduces another layer between Wildlands and the internet.

Run Wildlands as Administrator

Find the main Wildlands executable in your installation folder.

Settings → General → Network Settings → Advanced Settings → Alternate MAC Address → Clear

The Xbox will restart.

Once you’re back at the dashboard, launch Wildlands and check whether the NAT status has changed.

PS5: Refresh the Internet Connection

The PS5 gives you a quick way to force its network connection to reconnect.

If Wildlands is showing the Ribera error:

1. Press the PS button.
2. Open Settings.
3. Go to Network.
4. Temporarily disable the internet connection.
5. Wait about 5–10 seconds.
6. Enable it again.
7. Return to Wildlands.

The goal is to force the game to perform another authentication and matchmaking request without completely rebooting the console.

Try Google DNS

If your normal DNS provider is struggling with the connection route to Ubisoft’s services, switching DNS can be worth testing.

On PS5, open the internet connection configuration and change DNS from Automatic to Manual.

A commonly used configuration is:

• Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
• Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Save the configuration, run the PS5 connection test, and then restart Wildlands.

I wouldn’t assume that Google DNS is automatically faster for everyone. DNS performance depends on your location and ISP. But it is an easy test, and if your default DNS is causing problems, the difference can be noticeable.

When You Should Check Your Router

If none of the basic fixes work, the router becomes a much more interesting suspect.

Wildlands relies heavily on online matchmaking and peer-to-peer communication. A restrictive NAT configuration can prevent players from connecting even when their internet connection itself appears perfectly healthy.

Look for Port Forwarding, Virtual Server, or NAT settings in your router.

The relevant ports can vary by platform and Ubisoft service configuration, so I would avoid opening huge ranges blindly. If you do configure port forwarding, use the ports appropriate to your platform and make sure the forwarding rules point to the correct device on your home network.

And only after all of that would I start touching the router.

Wildlands is still one of my favorite games for chaotic four-player co-op. Sneaking into a cartel base with friends, completely messing up the plan five minutes later, and somehow escaping in a stolen helicopter is exactly the kind of multiplayer nonsense that keeps the game fun years after release.

A Ribera error shouldn’t be the thing that stops you from getting back into Bolivia.
