Breathedge 2 Multiplayer Mode, System Requirements, and Storage Size Explained (2026 Update)

There are some survival games where the whole appeal is watching your carefully planned base slowly turn into a disaster. Then there’s Breathedge 2, where the disaster seems to be part of the design philosophy.

After the original Breathedge built a surprisingly loyal audience with its bizarre combination of space survival, dark comedy, crafting, and one extremely memorable chicken, the sequel is finally here in Steam Early Access. RedRuins Softworks and HypeTrain Digital are taking the series in a bigger direction, with new exploration systems, customizable spacecraft, crew management, and a much more ambitious sci-fi setting.

Naturally, one question keeps appearing everywhere: Can you play Breathedge 2 with friends?

Unfortunately for anyone hoping to bring a buddy into space, the answer is no. At least for the current release, Breathedge 2 is a strictly single-player experience.

But multiplayer isn’t the only thing potential players want to know before installing it. PC gamers are also checking the Breathedge 2 system requirements, storage size, SSD recommendations, and whether their hardware is ready for the sequel.

I’ve gone through the available specifications and features, and here’s what actually matters before you jump into Early Access.

Is Breathedge 2 Multiplayer?

Let’s get the biggest question out of the way first.

Breathedge 2 does not have multiplayer, online co-op, or local split-screen support. The game is designed as a single-player survival adventure, with its story and progression built around one player.

Personally, I’m not shocked by this decision. The first game was already heavily focused on its protagonist, the strange situations he gets himself into, and the ridiculous characters and objects surrounding him. Turning that formula into a traditional co-op survival game would probably require a major redesign.

Still, I completely understand why players keep asking for multiplayer.

The basic ingredients are practically screaming for co-op. You’re exploring huge areas of space, collecting resources, building equipment, maintaining a spacecraft, and dealing with increasingly ridiculous survival problems. That’s exactly the kind of stuff that can become hilarious when two friends are making terrible decisions together.

The community comparisons with games such as Subnautica make sense. Space exploration, base building and survival systems naturally create opportunities for cooperative gameplay.

The problem is that RedRuins Softworks has not positioned Breathedge 2 as a multiplayer game. There is no proper multiplayer infrastructure in the current Early Access release, and co-op isn’t part of the immediate development direction.

So if you’re buying the game specifically because you want to play it with a friend, I’d definitely keep that in mind before spending the money.

The Good News: You’re Not Completely Alone

Breathedge 2 does try to solve the loneliness problem in another way.

The sequel introduces a much stronger crew management system, allowing players to recruit and manage NPC crew members aboard their spacecraft. These characters aren’t simply decorative passengers. They have roles, needs, personalities and objectives that become another part of your survival routine.

I actually think this is a better fit for Breathedge than simply adding generic co-op.

The original game’s strange personality works because the player constantly interacts with an absurd world. Having a crew of unpredictable characters on your ship could create some genuinely funny situations without sacrificing the single-player structure.

It’s not multiplayer, obviously, but it does make the universe feel less empty.

Breathedge 2 PC System Requirements

The hardware requirements are noticeably more demanding than what you might expect from the original game.

The sequel is aiming for larger environments, more detailed spacecraft, modern lighting and considerably more complicated systems. That means older gaming PCs shouldn’t assume they can run it just because the first Breathedge worked perfectly.

Here’s the current requirement breakdown:

The 12 GB RAM minimum immediately caught my attention.

We’re at a point where 8 GB of system memory is becoming increasingly uncomfortable for modern PC games, particularly when Windows, launchers and background applications are consuming memory at the same time. If your gaming PC still has only 8 GB of RAM, Breathedge 2 isn’t exactly the game I’d use to prove that you can keep squeezing another year out of the machine.

The recommended configuration is considerably more serious, too.

An RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT, combined with a Core i7-13700 or Ryzen 7 7700X, puts the recommended specification firmly into modern gaming-PC territory.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll need this hardware just to enjoy the game. Recommended requirements are not the same thing as minimum playable requirements. But if you’re aiming for higher settings and smoother performance, this is the hardware class the developers are targeting.

How Much Storage Does Breathedge 2 Need?

This one is refreshingly simple.

Breathedge 2 requires 15 GB of available storage space according to the listed PC requirements.

For a modern 2026 release, that’s actually pretty small.

Considering the sequel is offering expanded environments, spacecraft, additional systems and more complex gameplay mechanics, I was expecting a much larger installation. Compared with many current AAA releases that casually consume 100 GB or more, 15 GB almost feels nostalgic.

There is one important catch, though: Breathedge 2 is an Early Access game.

That means 15 GB shouldn’t necessarily be treated as the permanent final installation size. New story content, areas, assets, patches and gameplay systems can increase the footprint considerably as development continues.

For that reason, I’d personally keep 25–30 GB of free space available if you’re installing the game now. You don’t necessarily need all of that immediately, but having some breathing room for updates is much more sensible than filling your drive to the last few gigabytes.

SSD or HDD?

The listed requirement doesn’t make an SSD mandatory, but I’d still recommend one.

Breathedge 2 is built around exploration, spacecraft travel and loading large environmental assets. An SSD should provide faster loading and generally make transitions less frustrating.

If your main gaming drive is already an SSD, you’re set. If you’re still running modern games primarily from an old mechanical HDD, this might be another reason to consider upgrading.

What You Actually Get in Early Access

The most interesting part of Breathedge 2 isn’t really the hardware requirements or even the multiplayer question.

It’s how much the sequel changes the survival formula.

The current Early Access version introduces a broader exploration structure while keeping the strange humor that made the original stand out. You’re still scavenging, crafting and trying not to die in an environment that clearly doesn’t care whether you survive.

But now there’s more emphasis on your spaceship as a mobile base.

That’s a change I particularly like. In many survival games, the base eventually becomes a place you return to between adventures. Here, the spacecraft itself can become an important part of your progression and exploration.

The crew system adds another layer on top of that. Instead of simply collecting materials and upgrading equipment, you’re also managing people aboard the ship.

The Early Access package currently includes several important features:

• A new story chapter continuing the events of the original game.
• Expanded crafting and construction with more tools and structural components.
• Customizable spacecraft that function as mobile bases.
• Crew management mechanics involving NPC roles and needs.
• Controller support for major Xbox and PlayStation-style controllers.
• Steam Deck support, giving portable players another way to experience the game.

That combination makes Breathedge 2 feel less like a simple graphical sequel and more like an attempt to expand the entire concept.

Should You Play Breathedge 2 in Early Access?

This is where I’d be slightly cautious.

If you want a complete survival game with a finished story, perfectly balanced mechanics and years of content already available, Early Access probably isn’t the right time.

That’s not a criticism. Early Access exists specifically because the game is still being developed.

But if you enjoyed the original Breathedge and like the idea of watching a sequel grow, this is a much more interesting proposition.

The biggest selling point for me is that RedRuins Softworks isn’t simply throwing more crafting recipes at the player. The sequel appears to be experimenting with larger exploration, spacecraft progression and crew management, which gives it a stronger identity of its own.

And yes, I’m still disappointed that there’s no co-op.

I can already imagine two players arguing over who forgot to repair the ship while an immortal chicken somehow becomes the most important crew member on board. It would fit the series ridiculously well.

Unfortunately, that’s not the game we’re getting right now.

Final Verdict: Is Breathedge 2 Worth Watching?

If you’re searching for Breathedge 2 multiplayer, the answer is straightforward: there is currently no multiplayer or co-op mode.

For PC players, the hardware requirements are fairly reasonable at minimum but become much more demanding if you’re targeting the recommended experience. You’ll need at least 12 GB of RAM and a GTX 1660/RX 5500 XT-class GPU, while the recommended specification moves toward an RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT and modern high-end CPUs.

Storage is the easy part. The game currently asks for 15 GB, although I’d leave 25–30 GB free if you’re planning to stick with Early Access and its future updates.

As for the game itself, I’m more interested in what happens next than I was before launch.

Breathedge has always been at its best when it mixes survival mechanics with its completely unhinged sense of humor. Breathedge 2 seems to be taking that formula and giving it a larger playground. The spacecraft, crew management and expanded exploration could turn this into a considerably deeper survival experience once development progresses.

Just don’t buy it expecting to bring your friends along.

For now, it’s you, the cold emptiness of space, a collection of questionable engineering decisions, and, naturally, a chicken that somehow refuses to die.

Honestly, that sounds pretty much like Breathedge.
